Employment: 5,5 million hirings planned in 2023. The mismatch is growing

Le assumptions that the Italian companies they planned at the end 2023 are 6,4% more than those of 2022. The annual bulletin of the information system says so Excelsior (Unioncamere and Anpal) presented at Jo&Orienta, the orientation, school and work exhibition underway at the Verona Fair.

In absolute terms they are 5,5 million hiring scheduled for 2023 with permanent or fixed-term contracts exceeding 30 days. This is 330.000 more than in 2022 (+6,4%) and almost 894.000 compared to 2019. Very positive numbers which also include "less favorable economic conditions in the second half of the year" says a note.

At the top is the tourism sector, followed by trade, construction and manufacturing

The main sector was that of , along its entire supply chain, with over 1,1 million hirings expected (+160.000 compared to 2022 and +291.000 compared to 2019). Following are the sector of business with almost 749.000 contracts (+77.000 and +59.000 respectively), of construction (+40.000 and +177.000, for a total of 549.000 hires) and industries manufacturing (with 957.000 entries, +22.000 on 2022 and +103.000 on 2019).

The mismatch grows: Ats Academy graduates and specialized workers nowhere to be found

The sore point is still there business difficulties in finding the right staff. Almost half of the personnel searches are difficult to carry out and in particular they are unobtainable ITS Academy graduates, schools of excellence with high post-diploma technological specialization, and the skilled workers.

In detail, the mismatch continues to increase for all searched profiles, ranking at 45,1% of hires, growing by 4,6 percentage points over 2022 and 18,7 percentage points over 2019. In particular, the share of critical issues for specialized workers reaches 60,3%, says the note from Unioncamere.

For more than 8 out of 10 hirings, candidates will need to have at least a secondary qualification: over 800.000 contracts for profiles with a tertiary education (degree or ITS Academy) and more than 3,5 million positions offered for professions with a technical-professional qualification and professional education and training. 65,5% of ITS Academy graduates, 49% graduates and 46,9% of professional qualifications/diplomas are difficult to find.

“There are several factors that are determining the high rate of mismatch also recorded this year", underlines the president of Unioncamere, Andrea Prete. “Certainly a lever on which to act immediately is theyouth orientation. There are training courses, such as Its Academy, which ensure very high employment rates. They are thoughtful choices, which ensure great opportunities."
