Obama: "Justice will be done on Libya"

It won't open a diplomatic case, but US officials are very shaken. This morning the US ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, was killed in Benghazi along with three other US citizens. From the first reconstruction of events it seems that the ambassador and his compatriots were traveling by car in search of a safer place after the nighttime assault on the consulate when the vehicle was hit by a rocket. According to other sources, ivnece, Ambassador Stevens died of asphyxiation in the consulate after the assault. The other victims are the two marines who accompanied the diplomat and a consulate employee. In all, however, there are fourteen wounded.

Obama's reaction was harsh and immediate: "Four extraordinary Americans were killed in Libya" and "we want justice done and justice will be done". But the US president immediately added that "ties with Libya will not be broken". But, he added, "it is particularly tragic that Stevens was killed in Benghazi, a city he helped liberate."

The president of the General National Congress Mohamed al-Megaryef immediately showed the regret of the Libyan institutions: "We present our apologies to the US, to the American people and to the whole world", he declared.

Already on Tuesday night, some demonstrators had attacked the American consulate in Benghazi with grenades and firearms, for about 45 minutes. The anger of the rioters was triggered by a film deemed offensive to Islam. The title of the feature film is “Innocence of Muslim” by Sam Bacile, an Israeli-American who has publicly compared the Muslim religion to a cancer for humanity.

EGYPT – The protest has already begun to spread to neighboring Egypt. Protesters stormed the US embassy in Cairo and burned the American flag. The Muslim Brotherhood called for a new mobilization on Friday, inviting "to demonstrate peacefully in front of the mosques to denounce the insults against religion and the Prophet".
