According to Unioncamere, in the second quarter the balance was positive by 29 thousand units: one of the less brilliant results of the last 10 years

In second quarter the number of Italian companies has registered a positive balance of 29 thousand units, one of the least brilliant of the last decade. This is what emerges from the Unioncamere company register, created by combining data from the various chambers of commerce.

Between April and June, just over 92 applications for registration, figure in line with those recorded in the second quarter of the last 3 years.

The balance is therefore positive by 29.227 units, a result approximately 2 thousand units lower than that recorded in the same period last year.

In percentage terms, between April and June the stock of registered companies grew overall by 0,48% (against +0,52% in the second quarter of 2018), equal to an absolute value, as at 30 June of this year, of 6.092.374 units, of which 1.299.549 artisans.

At the territorial level, it is al South both the highest balance in absolute terms (10.677 more companies) and the highest relative increase (+0,52%) were recorded. In all regions, however, the quarter ended with a positive sign: from Lombardia (5.014 more companies to appeal), to Valle d'Aosta (101). To the Noon 36,5% of the total balance must be transferred. With the exception of the North-West, all the districts however recorded a lower growth rate than that measured in the corresponding quarter of last year.

From a sector point of view, if we exclude the extractive industry (limited to just 4.120 companies), all sectors recorded positive balances in the quarter. Better than the others, in absolute terms, the sector has done hotels and restaurants, one of the most relevant in terms of number of existing realities, with 5.284 more companies. Two other major sectors follow: construction (+4.518 units) e business (+3.377 compared to the end of March). The sector also did well professional, scientific and technical activities (+2.959) and that of the “business services” such as rental and travel agencies (+2.693).

In relative terms, the best performances come from sectors related to services: +1,4% scientific and technical professional activities, +1,3% rental, travel agencies and business services and +1,2% hotels and restaurants.

As for the universe of craft businesses, is dominated by three sectors: Construction (488.142 entities as at 30 June 2019), Manufacturing activities (296.274) and Other services (186.689).
