A night between art and fun. Saturday May 13 2023 history returns throughout Europe Night of the Museums, the event that will see the exceptional and free opening of some of the most important European art "temples". Born in 2005, the initiative involves all the signatory countries of the cultural convention of the Council of Europe. An unmissable opportunity for culture lovers and art and history enthusiasts who can visit the museums participating in the initiative until late at night cost symbolic of 1 €. Not only exhibitions, but also events, workshops for the little ones and live shows: this is how the Night of Museums 2023 works and the places to discover around Italy.

Night of Museums 2023 in Rome: here are which ones to visit

The capital is also ready to welcome the new edition of the Night of Museums 2023 which will see the opening of 80 spaces with 60 exhibitions and a calendar of around 130 shows, as well as guided tours and educational activities for all ages. In particular, the event - promoted by Roma Culture, the Capitoline Superintendency for Cultural Heritage with the organization of Zètema Progetto Cultura - offers extraordinary opening to the public in the evening, from 20.00 am to 02.00 pm (last admission at 01.00), of the spaces of the Rome Capital Museum System.

Inside them you can attend, with an entrance ticket of the cost of € 1 (unless otherwise indicated), a rich program of events and live shows.

Museums open in Rome

Among the Civic Museums involved: Capitoline Museums, Centrale Montemartini, Trajan's Markets - Museum of the Imperial Forums, Museum of the Ara Pacis, Museum of Rome, Napoleonic Museum, Museum of Rome in Trastevere, Pietro Canonica Museum in Villa Borghese, Museums of Villa Torlonia (Casina delle Civette , Casino Nobile, Serra Moresca), Museum of the Walls, Carlo Bilotti Museum – Orangery of Villa Borghese, Giovanni Barracco Museum of Ancient Sculpture, Civic Museum of Zoology, Museum of the Roman Republic and Garibaldian memory, Gallery of Modern Art, Museum of Casal de' Pazzi.

In addition to these places, doors open to House of Representatives and Senate of the Republic, but also in university museum poles, from Sapienza to Lumsa, from Luiss to Ecampus and Link Campus. Last but not least, cultural institutes, academies and embassies, such as the French Academy, that of Egypt, that of Romania, Hungary and the American Academy, but also the Cervantes Institute, the Casa Argentina in Rome. Among the other exhibition spaces, events also organized at Mattatoio, Maxxi, Macro, Palazzo Cipolla and WeGil with admission, also in this case, for only 1 euro.

Other events

On the occasion of the European Night of Museums 2023, the Colosseum Archaeological Park, in collaboration with the CUG - "Single Guarantee Committee for equal opportunities, the enhancement of the well-being of those who work and against discrimination" of the Ministry of Culture, promotes the round table "The Founding Mothers of Europe" starting at 19.30 at the Curia Julia. For the occasion, the extraordinary evening opening of the Curia Iulia and the Roman Forum is planned from 19.15 to 22.15. Last admission is at 21.15.
