Nomisma: De Nardis, the Italian economic picture is still weak, exports need to be strengthened

The Istat data published today show a still uncertain and unstable economic situation in Italy. This is supported by Sergio De Nardis, chief economist of the energy company Nomisma. The turnover of Italian companies is also decreasing due to the halt in exports. We need to increase exports, says De Nardis.

Nomisma: De Nardis, the Italian economic picture is still weak, exports need to be strengthened

The economic situation that Italy is currently experiencing still shows a substantially weak picture. This is claimed by Sergio De Nardis, chief economist of the energy company Nomisma.
His comment comes following today's publication of the Istat data signaling a halt in exports. “As regards the turnover of production activities – underlines De Nardis – there is a decrease caused by the setback that exports suffered this summer. Exports – as already mentioned several times – are our only lifeline in a situation in which domestic demand is still uncertain and in retreat”. And observing the flow of orders from Italian companies, the short-term perspective for Nomisma's chief economist is certainly not the best.
“Foreign markets – concludes De Nardi – are “holding” again but do not seem able to compensate for an ever-declining domestic market. The signal that we can gather from today's Istat data is the confirmation of a slow, bumpy and full of unknowns recovery path ".
