Public nominations: 506 seats up for grabs, lists soon

If there weren't the coronavirus emergency, these would be the first days of the total public appointments. Over the next few months, well 76 companies controlled by the Treasury (of which 19 directly) must renew their corporate bodies and the lists of candidates will soon arrive, starting with the one for the renewal of Monte dei Paschi, expected for Thursday. At stake are a total of 55 boards of directors and 50 boards of auditors, for a total of 506 armchairs (of which 258 in the BoD). The numbers are contained in an analysis by the CoMar Study Center on the companies of the Ministry of Economy that will hold their own budget meetings in the coming months.

The list includes giants of the Italian economy such as Eni, Enel, Poste, Leonardo, Terna, Trenitalia and Mps. But also Cdp Reti, Consip, Enav, Fintecna, Gse, Ipzs, Rai Way, Rfi, Sia and Sogin. If we consider only the top 15 Treasury subsidiaries in industry and services (excluding banks and insurance companies), total revenues exceed 221,7 billion euros, while the net operating margin reaches over 25,1 billion euros. Employees, on the other hand, get to share.

Nominations will have to take into account of gender balance, a principle strengthened with the latest maneuver, which requires assigning at least two fifths (40%) of the directors and statutory auditors to the less represented sex. To date, out of 506 members of the outgoing corporate bodies, there are 178 women, equal to 35,2% overall.

For presence on the stock exchange, the Mef holds direct equity investments in listed companies and others in issuers of listed instruments for a total of 11 companies (19 are unlisted), while another three are present on the Stock Exchange through the parent companies CDP or Rai. Among the listed companies, there are a total of 2020 subsidiaries affected by the 11 renewals, with 14 corporate bodies, including 9 Boards and 5 Boards of Statutory Auditors.

Finally, on the sectoral analysis side, the sector most affected by renewals is that of energy, with 9 companies: Enel, Eni, Sogin, Terna and Cdp Reti (as Parent Company with investments in Snam, Italgas and Terna), Energy Markets Manager, Energy Services Manager, Energy System Research and Single Buyer. In this sector, 14 corporate bodies will have to be renewed, 8 of which are directors and commissioners and 6 boards of statutory auditors. There are 77 outgoing members (43 directors and 34 statutory auditors), of which 28 are women (36,3%). Of all the Treasury's subsidiaries, the energy companies are those with the most significant female presence.
