Appointments of the Privacy Guarantor and Agcom: La Russa does not pass

New black smoke on the appointments of the Privacy Guarantor and Agcom. The vote scheduled for December 19 has been postponed to a later date. This was communicated by the vice president of the Senate, Roberto Calderoli, referring to the outcome of the conference of group leaders and the Government's intention to launch a new decree of extension of the current composition. Indeed, let us remember that both authorities are already under a special regime extension, a condition which however will expire on December 31st, and that until the new structures are established, both authorities are working only on ordinary administration.

Last December 10 was the umpteenth attempt by the majority also failed to find a solution to break the stalemate, bringing the number of members of the Privacy Guarantor from four to five, with the president appointed directly by the Prime Minister, according to the same parameters envisaged for Agcom. The provision also served to foil the possible appointment of Ignazio La Russa (Fdi), on whom the center-right is betting solidly, who is also the oldest candidate. In fact, with the current rules, if the centre-right votes for him as one and there is no agreement on the president, La Russa will in any case obtain the vice presidency. The rule, contained in an amendment to the Budget Law, was however declared inadmissible by the Budget Commission of Palazzo Madama.

The appointments have been hanging in the balance for months, prey to a tug of war between the parties who do not intend to give up, especially on the Privacy Guarantor. The Agcom dossier is also paying the price, linked to a balancing act that cannot be squared off.

At this point, after the umpteenth stalemate, the government will have nothing left to do but launch yet another extension, probably as part of the Milleproroghe decree, pending a political agreement.
