This evening the cabinet meeting will decide on the Siri case and examine the appointments to the Bank of Italy and the matter of the national airline. The outcome is not obvious.

Bankitalia appointments in CDM, extension for Alitalia

The council of ministers is convened for tonight at 21, when the premier Giuseppe Conte and the deputies Matteo Salvini and Luigi Di Maio will have returned from Tunis. There is a lot of meat on the fire for the government meeting: the most relevant political issue is the decision on the Siri case, after the meeting of the Northern League undersecretary at the Ministry of Transport who saw the prime minister on Monday evening.

Coming instead to the economic dossiers, the council of ministers should examine the appointments to the Bank of Italy and to IVASS which have been dragging on for some time after a long tug of war at the end of which the general manager Salvatore Rossi resigned and the governor Visco, on March 28, appointed Fabio Panetta as general manager and Daniele Franco and Alessandra Perrazzelli as deputy general managers. The mandate for Luigi Federico Signorini was renewed in February, the assignment is still awaiting the green light. What the outcome of the meeting will be is far from obvious, the green light could arrive halfway through and it will be necessary to wait for the conclusion of the CDM to find out. It should be remembered that on the appointments of Bank of Italy, after the opinion of the government, the last word belongs to the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella.

Alitalia instead everything seems more obvious. In the absence of an industrial partner, the The Board of Railways on Monday evening asked for an extension to the commissioners. Excluding (according to reports) the Toto option, the Atlantia hypothesis would remain at stake. But even on this there is still great uncertainty due to the implications of the company that controls Autostrade against which the government - and in particular the grillina component led by Transport Minister Toninelli - has more than one game open. How long will the new postponement be? Two to three weeks, but the decision is on the government table.
