No Green Pass, at the Port of Trieste the police evacuate with charges and water cannons

Three days after the introduction of the Green passes Mandatory workplace tensions continue at the Port of Trieste. After the eviction that took place on the morning of 18 October, the protest of the dockers, which has now become the no-vax demonstration against the green certification, continues outside the port of call. Despite the protests, the activities never really stopped, given that the dockers continued to guard gate 4, leaving access free so that the activity could continue except for some slowdowns and inconveniences.

The police intervened in the morning of October 18th for the liberation of gate 4 of Pier 7 of the Port of Trieste. The eviction was decided by the Trieste Public Prosecutor's Office and the intervention had already been leaked unofficially on Sunday. Protesters rose to their feet chanting "People like us never give up" and "Freedom" before officers turned on the water cannons. Despite this, the demonstrators have not given in and do not intend to leave the port: it is the port workers who act as a shield between the forces of order and the no passes to ensure everyone's safety and not let the situation escalate.

After the eviction, the agents started shooting tear gas to disperse the crowd that continued to be stationed on the port. The riots then moved to the area of the car park before the Gate, so as to allow the smooth running of the activities.

During the weekend the management of the facility was characterized by a certain confusion: already on Saturday some organizers had declared that the dockers would return to work on Sunday, to then turn around, as well as the subsequent resignations of Stephen Puzzer, former leader of the CLPT (Coordination of Port Workers Trieste) an attempt to juggle the two sides of the protest: on the one hand the port workers opposed to the obligation of green certification and on the other the trade unions CGIL, CISL e Uil who have instead invoked the liberation of gate 4. Also the prefecture and the Port Authority have invited the liberation of the port.

Furthermore, the ex spokesman for the dockers announced the extension of the strike until October 21st. And this could lead to further inconvenience with an impact on a national scale. In recent years, the Port of Trieste has found a role of renewed importance, especially as a port of call between the Mediterranean and Central Europe. In this sense, the motorway of the sea with Turkey plays a key role, thanks to the traffic of ro-ro ships (Roll on/Roll off) for the transport of goods on trucks and rolling vehicles. But the railway connections that the Adsp supports with the subsidiary Adriafer, the railway shunting company of the airport, are also strategic.
