Nintendo: net loss of 425 million, the first in 30 years

The financial nightmare for Super Mario and his colleagues continues. Nintendo closed the fiscal year with a net loss of 43,20 billion (425 million euros), against profits of 77,62 billion recorded in the previous 12 months. Revenues decreased by 36%, to 647,65 billion yen. Already last year the group had seen its turnover drop by 30%. The one announced today is the first red for the company in over 30 years

However, the historic videogame house guarantees that at the end of the next financial year it will return to producing operating profits of 35 billion yen, a figure that would in any case be lower than the forecasts of the insiders, who spoke of 40 billion yen.

In short, after writing the history of video games with legendary products (from the handy DS to the Wii console), the father of Pokemon and Zelda is forced to give way. I play the villain in this game smartphones and tablets: their boom has created sudden competition that the Japanese giant has not been able to manage. AND the appreciation of the yen, weighing on exports, did the rest.
