New York: 20 bottles of Koch up for auction

Up for auction is a fine selection of wines from a cellar of one of the most important American collectors, William I. Koch.  The unprecedented three-day sale will feature more than 20.000 bottles grouped into approximately 2.700 lots. With an estimate of 10.5 – 15 million, the sale sees bottles of the highest quality including ten bottles of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1945 highly regarded and estimated at $80 – $120.000.

William I. Koch stated: “My cellar is the result of nearly four decades of harvesting. I aimed to collect the best Bordeaux and Burgundy where the love and passion for wine could be tasted. Having collected over 43.000 bottles, I have not been able to consume the entire cellar, so I am delighted to offer this selection to allow collectors around the world to enjoy the moments of glory that come with these wines."

Jamie Ritchie, CEO and President of Sotheby's Americas and Wine Asia commented: “Bill Koch has one of the largest cellars in the world, full of legendary wines that all collectors want to try. The entire collection is centered around the highest quality: the greatest producers from each region, along with the best vintages. As expected from a collector like Kock, the wines have been impeccably stored and are in exceptional condition.”.

William (Bill) Koch is recognized as an entrepreneur, collector and philanthropist. Ranked as one of the 25 most generous people in the United States by the Journal of Philanthropy in 2011, he writes about Mr. Koch as someone who should be remembered for his mission to help underprivileged children by helping them receive a high-quality education.

As founder and Chief Executive Officer of Oxbow Carbon LLC. Mr. Koch has created the largest marketing company in the world. As a sea enthusiast he was winner of the 1992 America's Cup and four world championships. Mr. Koch's contribution to the world of fine wine has extended far beyond the construction of the largest wineries in the world. For more than a decade, he has been America's anti-wine fraud activist successfully exposing widespread deception at the highest levels of the marketplace.
