Snow, now it's frost risk and the wolves are coming

The wave of bad weather this time hit above all the centre-south. For over 24 hours the rainfall has been falling on theEmilia Romagna. But it continues to snow heavily in Abruzzo, Basilicata and the Marches. Snow on the too Campania and on Lazio, throughout the area around Rome. The sun seems to have returned to the capital, but forecasts indicate that more snowflakes will fall over the weekend. The cold won't end until at least next Wednesday. So now we begin to fear the frost.

The ice has already caused the first deaths, in addition to the more than 40 victims of the last wave of bad weather. Last night in Tuscany a 20-year-old boy lost his life in a road accident caused by ice. A 42-year-old Romanian woman froze to death in Rome. In Cagliari, however, a man died after leaving the hospital in which he was hospitalized in pajamas.

But the news that most tickles our imagination is thesighting of wolves in the Castelli Romani, near Rome. The commander of the Castelli Romani Park Guard, Carlo Grillo, immediately reassured the Romans by declaring that "they will never arrive in the city".

VIABILITY: Snow fell on over 1300 km of the motorway network. And throughout the day Viabilità Italia invited motorists to avoid travel. Even in the airports the situation is not the simplest: the airports of Pescara and Perugia have been closed, e Alitalia has reduced 11 flights between Rome and Milan. Stop the ferries on Elba and Giglio. The fast trains keep going, even if they are late, but the Ferrovie dello Stato have closed several regional lines, especially in the South, a decision that caused several protests.

NORTH: In Trentino Alto Adige, -30 degrees were reached during the night, but the sun has already returned this morning, bringing the thermometers back to around 0. In Trieste the Bora has reached 100km per hour.  Snow is not expected in Valle d'Aosta but temperatures are dropping sharply, even in the main tourist resorts. In Piedmont the cold will continue to increase. The man, of Danish nationality, was found overwhelmed by an avalanche. Venice is starting to feel the effects of the bad weather in economic terms: about 10% of the reservations for the carnival have been canceled. No more snowfalls are expected in Lombardy, except on the border with Emilia, but the cold will be intense.

CENTER: Emilia-Romagna is going through the most difficult situation, with uninterrupted snow for 24 hours making it difficult to clean the streets. About 230 people were evicted in the hinterland of Rimini. Heavy snowfalls also in Tuscany. Stormy situation also in the Marches, where the hinterland is on its last legs with snowdrifts that have reached even three meters and the Ducal Palace of Urbania risks collapsing. In Abbruzzo we begin to fear for the animals of the national park. It snows in L'Aquila and Pescara. In Lazio the snow continues to fall but not in the capital. In Rome, the exponential increase in the prices of chains for cars caused a scandal, which even reached 400 euros.

SOUTH: In Campania snow and rain alternated. Snow also in Puglia. Over a thousand isolated people in Basilicata, where the secondary roads are in difficult conditions. In Calabria about 800 families are without electricity. It is also snowing in Cosenza where schools have been closed. It has been snowing in Sardinia since yesterday afternoon and the greatest hardships are for the farmers who are unable to reach the pasture.
