Nepal: Facebook and Google to help the missing

The technology of Facebook and Google comes to the rescue of the victims of the earthquake that shook the Nepal, whose budget takes on more and more, as the hours go by, the dimensions of a real disaster.

The social network of Mark Zuckerberg, as announced by its creator himself, has indeed launched the Safety Check, a tool specially created by the Facebook staff for natural disasters and through which those who are in the areas affected by the earthquake will be able to inform everyone about their state of health.

As Zuckerberg himself explained through a post on Facebook: “When disasters strike, people need to know how their loved ones are doing. It is in these moments that being able to connect really counts”, and it is precisely for this that the Safety Check will be used, the functioning of which is rather elementary.

In fact, all users who are in the vicinity of the disaster will automatically receive a message asking if they are okay. If the answer is yes, Facebook will contact all the person's "friends" to inform them of the situation. Furthermore, thanks to the geolocation of the smartphone app, anyone can check the list of their friends who may be in trouble-

For Google, however, the Mountain View giant has reactivated its application person finder, which collects information from local operators and allows private individuals to enter data into the system to facilitate finding their family members, thus creating an online search database.

Person Finder was first launched during the 2010 Haiti earthquake and has been activated in several other extraordinary emergencies.
