Christmas and children: the initiatives of Poste Italiane

Let children discover the pleasure of writing and receiving a letter by renewing the tradition of making letters to Santa Claus. With this objective, Poste Italiane promoted five events in squares and galleries of the main Italian cities in Rome from 16 to 18 December (17 and 18 December at the Galleria Alberto Sordi); Genoa (16 December at the Porto Antico – Calata Cattaneo); Milan (December 17 at Piazza Argentina); Bologna (on December 18 at Galleria Cavour) and Naples (on December 18 at Piazza della Vittoria).

In these high-traffic areas of the historic center of the five cities, at the "Santa Claus Post" stands, children, helped by elves and reindeer, will be able to write and send their letters to the "generous old man with a white beard" and leave him a greeting handwritten special on a wall; they will also be able to take a snapshot with reindeer and elves. All children will receive "Santa's answer" at home with a small gadget to build.

There is also the possibility of downloading the Poste Italiane App “Lino Freddolino” free of charge, for smartphones and tablets. Lino Freddolino is a nice snowman who is always cold with whom children can play and share the funniest costumes they will create for him. Poste Italiane's partner is Telefono Azzurro, the association that since 1987 has been dedicated to listening to children and adolescents who need help. In fact, in a special showcase, it will be possible to make a donation to support the helpline 1.96.96 and to give concrete help to minors who are victims of abuse.

These five appointments add to the activity that Poste Italiane traditionally carries out by responding to the numerous letters addressed to Santa Claus and posted in mailboxes; moreover, this year it was possible to request Santa's reply also via an online form.

The ability to express ideas and emotions by carefully choosing the most suitable words is a useful and precious resource even in the digital age. Writing a letter with pen and paper helps to develop and improve creativity, imagination and expressive effectiveness. Poste Italiane's initiative aimed at very young "digital natives" therefore also represents a small contribution to their educational path.
