Brocchi's Milan is born: first test with Sampdoria

Christian Brocchi, strongly desired by Berlusconi, makes his debut tonight on the Milan bench after the sensational sacking of Sinisa Mihajlovic but the first test in Genoa against Samp is not the easiest – The new coach: “I won't change everything but I hope to enter the players' heads” for a more aggressive and fun game

Brocchi's Milan is born: first test with Sampdoria

Brocchi's Milan was born. This evening (20.45 pm) Marassi's spotlights will be focused above all on him, who in the space of a few days passed from the semi-anonymity of the Primavera to the much more exposed first team. The match against Sampdoria will be the most important test of his (short) coaching career, the first of 7 finals that await him between now and the end of the season to establish his future. There is a lot of curiosity and it mainly concerns the game, a rather abused term in the past week and, Galliani dixit, "a fundamental discriminant for Brocchi". Mihajlovic's ears will ring but via Aldo Rossi he spoke clearly: never had such an ugly Milan been seen and they will never have to see each other again. “I think it's normal to change something on a tactical level but without upsetting everything – the words of the new AC Milan coach. – It would be presumptuous to undermine the certainties of the players but I want to bring my methodology, I am convinced that this squad has the characteristics to play with the 4-3-1-2".

Music to the ears of Berlusconi, who has always been a great lover of the attacking midfielder and the two strikers: a system also tried by Mihajlovic but abandoned after the disastrous results obtained (4 defeats in the first 7 days). However, all of this does not seem to particularly strike Brocchi, who is determined to win reconfirmation with a more aggressive and entertaining team, in perfect harmony with the presidential wishes. “I found a sad group due to Mihajlovic's sacking but very helpful – continued the coach. – I hope to be able to get into their heads, I want them to believe in me and espouse my ideas”. The distrust, apparently, does not concern only the fans but Brocchi wants to drive it away with the sound of performances and results, as well as with a modern methodology (at Milanello, for the first time, drones were used to resume training) and a agile and direct communication.

The most important change compared to the Mihajlovic era will be the formation, a 4-3-1-2 with Donnarumma in goal, Abate, Alex, Romagnoli and De Sciglio in defence, Kucka, Montolivo and Bertolacci in midfield, Bonaventura playmaker behind the Balotelli-Bacca couple. So Antonelli and Honda, very loyal to Sinisa, are out, while Captain Montolivo remains in his place, despite the strong temptation to launch the young Locatelli (director of whom great praise is said) and, probably, only postponed. Montella, forced to give up the suspended Ranocchia, will respond with the following 3-4-2-1: Viviano in goal, Diakité, Silvestre and Moisander in the back, De Silvestri, Fernando, Krsticic and Dodò in the midfield, Soriano and Alvarez in the trocar behind the lone striker Quagliarella.
