The Unicredit Bank Austria Campus is born in Vienna: an eco-sustainable citadel of 200 square meters

The new area, which complies with ecological sustainability criteria, will be built in the second district of the Austrian capital and will serve as an impetus for the development of the entire city – Unicredit Bank Austria will offer bank employees, customers and the inhabitants of Vienna the opportunity to use the project as a working environment and meeting point.

It will be built in an area of ​​200 thousand square meters and will comply with the criteria of ecological sustainability the Unicredit Bank Austria Campus designed by the Slovenian architect Boris Podrecca and which will be built by 2016.

Unicredit Bank Austria, in close collaboration with the city of Vienna, has thus opened a new chapter in the development of the area of ​​the former Nordbahnhofs, in the second district of Vienna. The project, which concerns the axis connecting the city center and "Donau City", will be a strong impetus for the development of the entire city. The Campus will have an innovative headquarters of international importance and built with ecologically sustainable criteria for the headquarters of Bank Austria, which will acquire from the Austrian National Railways the ownership of the five building areas to be used almost entirely for the development and construction of the work.

The remaining areas will be sold, as foreseen by the project, to selected investors. The project includes office buildings, infrastructure units, a Bank Austria square and a three-lane traffic-calmed boulevard. Other facilities include a 200-room hotel, staff canteens and company kindergartens, a health center and a series of shops and two underground car parks capable of accommodating 800 cars. 

“Boris Podrecca is the ideal architect for this project,” said Willibald Cernko, CEO of Bank Austria, “a European mind for a European banking group. The UniCredit Bank Austria Campus will offer the bank's employees, its customers and guests, as well as the inhabitants of Vienna and all visitors, the opportunity to use the project as a working environment, a multifunctional recreation area and a meeting point. This is the largest building project in the Austrian capital, which further underlines the importance of Vienna as a business location and which, according to calculations by the Austrian Institute for Economic Research, will create 2.500 jobs”. Architect Boris Podrecca explains his project for the UniCredit Bank Austria Campus as follows: “The ideogram of the project presents a generous proximity to the urban landscape and city buildings. The architecture of the workplace will be integrated into this polarity and will act as a hinge and structure for both spheres”.

The area has been undergoing continuous development since 2004. By 2025 a new district will be built on an area of ​​65 hectares. Several new projects have been completed around the new Rudolf-Bednar Park in recent years, such as Bike City orWohnen am Park I am very pleased that the project, apart from the 400 apartments already completed, includes a large number of working environments in a point that can be easily reached by public transport,” said Maria Vassilakou, deputy mayor of Vienna.
 
The investment costs for the entire area amount to approximately 490 million euros. The project also underscores Vienna's importance as a corporate location and, according to current calculations by the Austrian Institute of Economic Research, will create 2.500 jobs. The areas parceled out for construction will produce up to a maximum of 9.000 new workplaces, some of which will also be used by other companies. Together with the Bank Austria office buildings at Lassallestrasse no. 1 and no. 5, for a total of 3.000 working environments, the UniCredit Bank Austria Campus which will be built on the site of the northern railway station will provide offices capable of accommodating over 12.000 people.
