Naples: purifiers to the French of Suez

Multi-year contracts and investments in one of the most critical areas of Italy: 120 million euros with the use of cutting-edge technologies

Naples: purifiers to the French of Suez

Suez strengthens its presence on the Italian market and bets on Naples. The French group bet and won on the modernization project of the Regi Lagni in Naples, signing a new contract to renovate and manage the wastewater treatment plant in North Naples. The business perimeter is that of five years ago, when the group took over the management of the Cuma treatment plant. There are 120 million euros on the table, all inclusive. Specifically, the Regi Lagni project intends to favor the evolution of the 5 wastewater treatment plants: Cuma, Napoli Nord, Marcianise, Acerra and Foce Regi Lagni. About 5 million inhabitants will benefit.

It has been twenty years since the Neapolitan area has seen such a complex and articulated intervention plan in that delicate environmental and water treatment sector which has tarnished and damaged the image of Naples and its hinterland. Alongside Suez, as an Italian industrial partner, there is Impresa Pizzarotti. Together, the two subjects are working on innovative technologies that will make it possible to reduce the energy footprint of the plants to be managed. From a technical point of view, the control of the air consumption necessary for the biological treatment will be integrated, making the most of the sludge for cogeneration and the recovery of calories.

Naples thus becomes an important part of the Italian market, which is the third reference country in Europe for the Suez Group. The French, on the other hand, have already been in Italy for some time through mixed companies, in the management of the supply of drinking water and in the recovery of waste water for 2,7 million inhabitants. Over the past half century, they have built 150 drinking water production plants, 500 wastewater treatment plants and 80 industrial water treatment plants. In Milan they have created one of the three centers of excellence for industrial waste.

“This project is crucial for the Naples area which needs infrastructure, especially at an environmental level. In collaboration with local and regional authorities, we will provide teams and know-how to improve the technical and environmental performance of the plants". Positive statements from Marie-Ange DEBON, Group Senior Executive of SUEZ for France, Italy and Central Europe, who also relates to the Campania Region which has chosen the Parisian company. It must be said that Campania is in turn committed to improving the quality of the waters of the Gulf of Naples, precisely with the revitalization of these infrastructures. The Suez Group recovers 17 million tons of waste every year, produces 3,9 million tons of secondary raw materials and 7 terawatt hours of local renewable energy. Naples will do its part.
