Mortgages, CDP starts renegotiation for local authorities

The CDP runs to the aid of local authorities. It just ended the largest mortgage renegotiation operation ever carried out in recent years from Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. In total, over 80 mortgages from local authorities have been renegotiated, which will make it possible to free up resources for a value of approximately 800 million euros in 2020.

The initiative was created to support Municipalities, Provinces, Metropolitan Cities, Unions of Municipalities, Mountain Communities, Regions and Autonomous Provinces aimed at freeing up funds that can be used immediately in the area to deal with the Covid health emergency, with targeted interventions for the benefit of the population.

Around 3.100 territorial entities took part in this operation and were able to renegotiate over 80 mortgages for a total residual debt of over 20 billion euros and free up to around 800 million euros in 2020. The measure involved the entire national territory: over 1.250 entries in the North alone, more than 1.240 in the South and Islands, while around 590 in the Centre.

More than 3.200 people participated in the webinars organized by Cdp, ANCI, IFEL and UPI to offer support in the procedures and operating methods.

Fabrizio Palermo, the CEO of Cdp underlined that since the beginning of the epidemiological emergency, the institute has felt the responsibility to intervene to support local authorities. For this reason, an unprecedented mortgage rescheduling plan was timely finalized.

“About one institution out of two has renegotiated its positions: a figure that testifies to the success of the initiative – added Palermo – The operation also made it possible to free up significant resources that the institutions immediately employed in the area, to initiatives to support families, commercial activities, for the purchase of personal protective equipment and also for interventions aimed at resuming cultural and socialization activities".
