Rates on new mortgages in April reached a new all-time low at an average of 2,3% (from an average of 2,33% in March) and nonetheless two-thirds of new loans moved towards a fixed rate.

The recovery of the home loan market is consolidating. The monthly ABI report shows that in March the total amount of bank loans for the purchase of homes grew by 1,1% on the year.

The report also estimates that rates on new mortgages in April reached a new all-time low at an average of 2,3% (from an average of 2,33% in March) and yet two-thirds of new loans moved towards a fixed rate.

As for the general trend in loans from Italian banks, in April they reached approximately 1.820 billion, up by 0,3% over twelve months. On the other hand, the minus sign returns for the trend in loans to households and businesses in April (-0,27% per year).

"For some months there has been an oscillation around zero - comments the chief economist and Deputy General Manager of the association Gianfranco Torriero - we expect a push to return to higher levels".

On the funding front, positive confirmations from the growth in deposits: +4,6% per annum according to the Abi, the highest trend variation recorded for five months.
