Mustier: the best solution on Generali

The CEO of Unicredit, Jean Pierre Mustier, after successfully filing the capital increase of the bank in Piazza Gae Aulenti, has his say on the failed marriage between Generali and Intesa.

"The outcome of the discussions I think is the best for the country." This is what the French manager declared on the sidelines of the "Behind the lines" conference organized by Fabi.

"Before it all started - continued the number one of Unicredit - I had already said that for Italy it is very important to have an independent and international listed insurance company".

We recall that Unicredit is the largest shareholder of Mediobanca, which in turn is the largest shareholder of Generali. But the bank he leads will also remain Italian: “Unicredit – concluded Mustier – clearly has an Italian future”.

Mustier also spoke about the Italian state's support for banks: “The alternative to not supporting these banks would have been a catastrophe for the employees and customers of the banking system. So I think it was a good decision both from an economic and a social point of view,” he said about the support assured by the Italian state to the banks in crisis.
