Mustier remains in Unicredit: he will not go to HSBC

Jean Pierre Mustier remains in Unicredit. The managing director of the Milanese bank will not go to lead the British giant HSBC for which his arrival had been rumored in recent days.

This was specified in a note from Unicredit this morning after indiscretions about Mustier's departure in the last two trading sessions had caused the stock to lose 7%. The note from the bank explains that Mustier is, together with all the management, entirely focused on the implementation of Team23, the new strategic plan that has just been launched.

Mustier's permanence in the Milanese skyscraper in Piazza Gae Aulenti is therefore a certainty but the uncertainties about the future of Unicredit remain. How will Mustier respond to Intesa Sanpaolo's attack on Ubi? Will he go straight on his way or will he correct the strategy?

So far, according to financial analysts, Mustier has sold what he no longer considered strategic, even if it produced many profits such as the Polish bank Pekao, and has tried to reduce and sell off impaired loans as much as possible in order to best present Unicredit on the market with a view to a possible international marriage, difficult to achieve but always within the reach of the French banker. Now it will be necessary to see if the surprise of Intesa Sanpaolo will induce Mustier to review the plans and to imagine that for his bank the wedding could take place abroad but, why not?, also in Italy.
