Mussari, no IMF loan is needed for Italy

Speaking on Radio Rai 1, the president of the Italian banking association spoke about the debt crisis and showed confidence in the country's chances of getting out of the situation on its own.

Mussari, no IMF loan is needed for Italy

"No loan from the IMF for Italy, there is no need" claims Giuseppe Mussari, president of the ABI, from the microphones of "The economy in your pocket" on Radio Rai 1. "I believe that the refinancing of our debt, - explained Mussari - even if at higher rates, has not encountered any particular obstacles so far. Our debt is 50% to Italian citizens and institutions”.

According to the banker, in this convulsive phase it is not so much important what measures will be adopted, so much so that there are measures to give the markets a signal of reliability. The priority, to protect banks and citizens, is the reduction of the spreads between Btp and Bund.

Mussari, showing optimism, identified the chain of institutions, banks, citizens and businesses as the best way out of the crisis: "It is clear that with this perception of risk, the cost of money increases for the banks, and this cost then falls on citizens and businesses. Just yesterday the IMF announced that it will grant loans to member states that request them, for a value equal to 10 times the share in the fund.
