Elon Musk sells again. In just three days, from December 11 to 14, the US billionaire almost sold 22 million Tesla shares for a total value of 3,6 billion of dollars. The news was revealed by Wall Street Journal which cites a document filed with the Sec, the American stock exchange authority. 

Musk, Tesla: shares sold for over 39 billion

It is not the first time Musk go to the collection, indeed. From November 2021 and therefore in just over a year, the number one of Tesla he sold shares in his company for a value that exceeds 39 billions of dollars. The company has since lost further 700 billion dollars of market value, even if it remains the largest automaker in the world by value, while from January to today the Tesla stock has lost more than 54% of its value and the percentage is likely to increase further given that, in the pre-market of the American Stock Exchange, Tesla shares lose a further 2,6%, after yesterday hitting their lows for 14 months. To date, his stake in the electric car maker has dropped to 13,4%. 

Why is Musk selling Tesla shares?

There is no official answer, but the sales could be related to the need to finance the acquisition of Twitter, cost 44 billion dollars. Not surprisingly, since he bought the popular social network, Musk has sold 8,4 billion Tesla shares in April, 6,9 billion in August, 3,4 billion in November and 3,6 billion in December.

Musk is no longer the richest man in the world

Against this background, Elon Musk has also lost the scepter of richest man in the world. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, his net worth has dropped $100 billion since January to $168,5 billion. The primacy has therefore passed to another super rich, the number one of LVMH, Bernard Arnault, whose assets amount to 172,9 billion. It is the first time since September 2021 that Musk has lost the title and the current recession reflects a difficult year for the billionaire.
