Murray beats Djokovic in the final: Wimbledon is British again after 77 years

After 77 years the wait is over: a subject of His Majesty has made it. Andy Murray (shortly "Sir") won Wimbledon, the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. The Scotsman defeated number one in the ranking, Novak Djokovic, in three sets: 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.

A nervous, tight final, topped off by an unusual number of mistakes by the Serbian, who wasted a break lead both in the second and in the third set. In the end Murray made the difference with a more solid first serve, with his usual talent in defense and above all with the ability to handle the most incredible pressure of his career.

The ghosts of last year (when Andy was forced to bow to King Roger Federer in the final) returned to haunt central court especially in the last round of service, when the Scotsman had three consecutive match points canceled by his opponent, before saving as many break points and finally being able to close the match.

“Watching that last game was torture,” said the interviewer during the award ceremony. Memorable Murray's answer: "Imagine playing it...".

In the British party, a slice of glory also goes to Italy: 17-year-old Gianluigi Quinzi won the Wimbledon junior tournament, beating Hyeon Chung, a small but very fast Korean, in the final. Two battle sets, played at a very high level for a couple of teenage tennis players. In the end, the Italian won 7-5 7-6(2) in one hour and 45 minutes. This is the second success for Italy of the little ones in this tournament, Diego Nargiso's arrived 26 years ago.
