Surprise results from the ballots of the 2022 municipal elections: in Verona and Parma, the main cities voting, the centre-left won by taking advantage of the strategic errors of the centre-right, which, despite counting on a theoretically broader electoral base, presented itself at the polls divided and thus made himself overtaken by his opponents. However, if we consider the total number of provincial capitals, the centre-right prevails for 13 municipalities to 10 on the centre-left. However, the leading party remains that of abstention, given that the turnout did not exceed 42,1%, a clear decrease compared to the 54,1% of the first round.
Municipal elections Verona
In Verona Damiano Tommasi, a former footballer for Roma and the Italian national team, becomes mayor, who at the close of the ballot won 53,34% of the votes in the runoff against Federico Sboarina (centre-right) who stopped at 46,66%. The centre-left hadn't won the majority and the mayor's seat in Verona for 15 years. Sboarina has already telephoned Damiano Tommasi, congratulating him on his victory in the ballot.
Municipal elections Parma
In Parma, on the other hand, the seat of mayor goes to Michele Guerra, who, with the ballot almost completed, was firmly in the lead with a percentage of around 65%. His challenger was former mayor Pietro Vignali, supported by the centre-right. Guerra is in continuity with his predecessor Federico Pizzarotti, of which he was councilor for culture. War's coalition also includes the Democratic Party: the main centre-left party is once again part of the majority that governs Parma after 24 years of opposition.
Municipal elections Catanzaro
Nicola Fiorita, subverting all predictions, is the new mayor of Catanzaro. The candidate from the Democratic Party, the 5-star Movement and some civic lists won with a percentage of 58,24%, overtaking by a large margin his opponent, Valerio Donato (41,41%), the expression of a political and civic aggregation which it saw together representatives of the centre-right and the centre-left.
Municipal elections Piacenza
The Democratic Party and the centre-left also regained Piacenza, where the regional councilor Katia Tarasconi won the ballot against the outgoing mayor, Patrizia Barbieri (centre-right).
Monza municipal elections
In Monza, the new mayor is Paolo Pilotto, candidate of the centre-left, who defeated Dario Allevi, candidate of the centre-right and outgoing mayor, in the runoff. Pilotto recovered 7 percentage points in two weeks.
Municipal elections Alexandria
Alessandria returns to the center-left after five years: Giorgio Abonante won the ballot, a member of the Democratic Party who also presented himself in the first round with the support of the 5-star Movement, collecting 42,04% of the preferences. On the second ballot, his percentage rose to over 54%. Probably a part of the electorate of Giovani Barosini (Azione con Calenda) was decisive, who on 12 June had won 14,6% of the votes and who, while not making an appearance, made an agreement with Abonante.
Municipal elections Lucca
Mario Pardini, unitary candidate of the centre-right, is the new mayor of Lucca, at the end of a long head-to-head against the candidate of the centre-left Francesco Raspini. Pardini, entrepreneur and former president of Lucca Crea (the investee company that organizes Lucca Comics and games), won by a few tenths of a point.
Gorizia municipal elections
Rodolfo Ziberna, supported by the united centre-right, is confirmed as mayor of Gorizia with 52,23% of the preferences. The comeback fails the former Pd senator, Laura Fasiolo, who could count on the support of the center-left and the 5-star movement.
Como municipal elections
Alessandro Rapinese is the new mayor of Como. The civic candidate, in the third attempt in 15 years and for the first time in the ballot, defeated the center-left candidate Barbara Minghetti in a comeback.
Cuneo municipal elections
Finally, the centre-left candidate Patrizia Manassero is the first female mayor in the history of Cuneo. In the ballot you easily won the confrontation with the challenger Franco Civallero, who for the first time in twenty years led the center-right to the second round. The 28 percentage points of the furrow dug on 12 June increased again on a day also characterized by a thud in turnout – which dropped to 36,73% from 54,51% on 12 June.
