Mps: Viola withdraws his resignation and Profumo does not submit them

The president of Monte dei Paschi, Alessandro Profumo, and the CEO Fabrizio Viola remain at the helm of the bank despite the adverse outcome of the last meeting on the timing of the recapitalization - Viola has in fact presented his resignation but the Board has confirmed his confidence and his resignation was withdrawn while Profumo did not submit it

Alessandro Profumo and Fabrizio Viola remain at the head of Monte dei Paschi. This is the conclusion of the eagerly awaited board meeting of the bank which was held this afternoon in Siena. Despite the adverse outcome of the last meeting on the timing of the recapitalization, Profumo did not decide to insist on the resignations and did not submit them, accepting the appeal to this effect that had been informally addressed to him by both the Treasury and the Bank of Italy.

The resignations were instead initially offered by Viola but, unanimously, the board of directors expressed full confidence in him, leading the CEO to withdraw them.

However, the aftermath of the vote of the last shareholders' meeting on the recapitalization is not exhausted. The bank's board of directors, also on the basis of what was requested by Consob, has initiated "investigations of a technical-legal nature regarding the possible harmful effects resulting from the postponement of the capital increase". Information on this was given to the Mps Foundation, which is the bank's main shareholder and which is at the origin of the postponement of the recapitalization.
