The MPS case, as was foreseeable, leaves the Italian borders and arrives in Brussels, from where the spokesman of the EU commissioner Michel Barnier points the finger at the Italian authorities, calling them to their own responsibility: "It is up to the Italian authorities to clarify how the situation worked in the past and what exactly happened“, adding, then, that many things will change in the future, with the single supervision under the guidance of the ECB.
However, according to the internal market commissioner's spokesman, the Montepaschi scandal will have no impact on the negotiations to define the direct recapitalization mechanism of the banks.
