Mps: Guzzetti opens up to aid Foundations with the purchase of Monti bonds

Banking foundations could help MPS reduce the capital shortage highlighted by the ECB stress tests by purchasing part of the Monti bonds from the Treasury. This was stated by Giuseppe Guzzetti, president of Acri and of the Cariplo Foundation.

“We can neither exclude it nor confirm it, but these are guaranteed instruments that have a very high interest rate”, added Guzzetti, specifying that it would be a type of investment compatible with the constraints of the institutions.

On the sidelines of the conference for the 90th Savings Day, Guzzetti also underlined that the Foundations will do "everything that can be done" to help the Sienese bank ("we are particularly close to our hearts"), but ruled out direct interventions on the banks' capital exits with shortfall from the ECB exercise: "I think not on capital, it can be supported with other initiatives".
