Mps, former leaders sentenced in the first instance for Antonveneta

Convictions in the first instance for the former top management of the MPS bank involved in the Antonveneta trial: the Court of Milan has sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison Giuseppe Mussari, aged 7 years and 3 months Antonio Vigni and aged 4 years and 8 months Gian Luca Baldassarri, among the defendants for the alleged irregularities in the operations carried out by Monte dei Paschi between 2008 and 2012 to cover the losses due to the acquisition of the small bank Venetian. The judges also sentenced Daniele Pirondini, former financial director of Rocca Salimbeni to 5 years and 3 months.

At the heart of the trial, the documents of which were transmitted by the Siena prosecutor's office to the Milan prosecutor's office in 2015, are the financial transactions - the famous Santorini and Alexandria derivatives - which in those years would have served to hide the losses caused by the purchase of Antonveneta, which cost around 10 billion euros in 2008. In the dock - all convicted - there were 13 people, in addition to the former MPS leaders, also six former managers of Deutsche Bank and two former managers of Nomura. In fact, the Japanese bank Nomura was also sentenced to confiscation of 88 million euros and a fine of 3,45 million euros, and Deutsche Bank AG and Deutsche Bank London Branch, involved in the total confiscation of 64 million euros and a fine of 3 million euros.

The alleged crimes for various reasons were market manipulation, false accounting, false prospectus and obstruction of supervisory bodies, the latter partly prescribed. The highest penalties requested by the prosecutor were those for Vigni and Mussari, 8 years in prison and a 4 million fine. For DB and Nomura, 1,8 million fines had been requested for each, and the confiscation of 440,9 million and 444,8 million euros.
