Wasn't that of David Rossi, the external relations manager of Monte dei Paschi di Siena, a suicide? New questions emerge on that tragic March 6, 2013, the day in which the manager died falling from the window. Now a shocking video, published by the New York Post, shows chilling images: the body hitting the ground, on the pavement, two men approaching, one is hooded, look and go away. It is impressive to see that David Rossi was still alive and they are not providing any assistance. Who are those men? What did they do there? Anyone recognize them?
"No mystery, that video is attached to the documents and is well known by those under investigation," explains Luca Goracci, the Rossi family lawyer, to La Repubblica, specifying that it was Rossi's partner, Antonella, who called a bank employee why he went to see what had happened, as he could not trace David: “Yes, I confirm it. One of the two men in that video is the person who was called by his wife and whoever investigated is aware of it ”. But the prosecutor, to avoid inferences, has given a mandate to the judicial police to hear from the two people already identified.
The chief prosecutor Salvatore Vitello explains in a note that “the video corresponds to that already acquired in the documents at the time. With regard to the people who approached the body of David Rossi, it is represented that already during the very first investigations two people informed of the facts were heard who were believed to correspond to the two subjects filmed in the video. The same made statements perfectly coinciding with their presence on site as emerging from the video footage and one of these was the one who arranged to request the intervention of the 118. It therefore appears evident that the two subjects interviewed at the time are those who were on site of the fact and who clarified the reasons for their presence. For definitive confirmation and to avoid further inference, in the new investigation underway the judicial police were delegated to hear from the two people already identified ".
On the other hand, Rossi's wife, Antonella Tognazzi, never believed the suicide version and fought for the case to be reopened. Rossi's death occurred in the most difficult days of Monte dei Paschi, in the midst of the judicial investigation into Antonveneta (acquired by Mps) and the Santorini and Alexandria derivatives connected to the operation. The magistrates closed the investigation, which involved the former top management of the bank (including the former president, Giuseppe Mussari, the former general manager, Antonio Vigni, the former financial director, Daniele Pirondini, and the 'ex number one in the finance department, Gianluca Baldassarri), last January.
The facts contested by the Milan prosecutor's office refer to the period 2008-2012. There is also another file on the Alexandria derivative, underwritten with the Japanese bank Nomura, which is in the preliminary hearing stage. The Fresh operation (Floating rate equity-linked subordinated hybrid preferred securities, financial instruments convertible into MPS ordinary shares) dates back to 2008 and is a hybrid loan created to buy Antonveneta, allowing the Sienese bank to raise one billion euros in capital, out of the approximately 10 billion needed to complete the purchase operation.
