Mps, Consob: stop short selling until Thursday

Consob has decided to extend the ban on short selling on Banca MPS shares already adopted yesterday. This was communicated by the Market Control Authority, specifying that the ban will last until the end of the trading session the day after tomorrow.

The extension of the prohibition was adopted in application of article 23, paragraph 2, of Community Regulation no. 236/2012 on 'Short Selling', taking into account the price change recorded by the security on 19 January 2016 (above the 5% threshold). Since the beginning of the year, in fact, the stock has lost about 45%. The prohibition concerns short selling assisted by the availability of securities.

“The performance of the Banca MPS share these days – wrote the president of the MPS Foundation, Marcello Clarich in a note – does not find objective justification in the company data according to which the Institute is stable from an economic and financial point of view following the full implementation of the business plan, which has already yielded positive results in the first nine months of 2015. The Foundation follows market reactions with attention and absolute serenity, which do not always and necessarily appear rational. The Mps Foundation continues to express full confidence in the work of Banca Mps' management”.
