Mps, the Senate will decide on the commission of inquiry in January

The matter will be examined in the hall of Palazzo Madama in the session of next 10 January

Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the Senate also wants to see clearly in the story that brought the oldest credit institution to the brink of collapse. And it is starting from the consideration that "The banking system is not credible if it does not offer precise guarantees to savers and for this purpose a guarantee fund is not sufficient, if all the guarantees of transparency and protection both of the management of savings and of the job work”: that the hall of Palazzo Madama, when work resumes, will evaluate the request to set up a commission of inquiry into the financial instability of the MPS. The declared objective, "will be to verify responsibilities to prevent events of such great importance from happening again".

The report that accompanies the bill for the establishment of the parliamentary commission of inquiry notes how "in compliance with the investigations that the judiciary is already carrying out profitably for the aspects within its competence, Parliament has the responsibility to pay great attention to this problem, not just in words, thus taking steps to adopt all the necessary initiatives to shed light on a long dark period in the economic and financial management of what was once the most solid bank in Italy. Parliament, therefore, must evaluate what has not worked, understand who is responsible and, to those who have been defrauded, to Italian savers, promptly provide answers in terms of justice, equity and legality, in the ways envisaged by the article 82 of our Constitution”.

The commission will evaluate “the work of Banca MPS, of the MPS foundation, and, consequently, of Consob and the Bank of Italy as far as MPS is concerned. The task of the Commission of Inquiry will also be to verify responsibilities in order to prevent events of such great importance from happening again". The topic is included in the classroom agenda set for 10 January.
