Special One sat on the bench at Old Trafford since May 2016 and in charge of the Red Devils he won three trophies in 2017: League Cup, Europa League and Community Shield. This year, however, the results have fallen short of expectations: Man United progressed through to the Champions League – finishing second in the group behind Juventus – but he is even sixth in the Championship, very far from the positions that count: -19 from leaders Liverpool and -11 from fourth place, currently occupied by Chelsea.

For Mourinho it is the second dismissal in three years after the one suffered by Chelsea in December 2015. The news of the split between the Portuguese and United will not please Juventus fans, because distances the prospect of a return of Paul Pogba in black and white. The French midfielder has argued several times with the Special One in the shared path in England and after the news of the exemption he posted a photo of himself on Instagram with a sort of sly grin and the caption "you put the words" (the post was removed after a few minutes). Now that the problem of the hostile relationship with the coach is closed, Pogba could decide to stay with the red devils.
As for Manchester United, the team is temporarily entrusted to Michael Carrick, former Red Devils midfielder, but could soon be offered to Laurent Blanc. According to the first rumors, the club could offer the French coach a six-month contract, with the possible confirmation of a year in case of qualification for the next Champions League. A mission that, however, at the moment, seems almost impossible.
