Motorcycles: Ancma, registrations mark -19,6% in June

Another difficult month for the two-wheeler market in Italy. In fact, registrations in June recorded a negative figure: 31.764 vehicles, with a drop of 19,6%. This was announced by Confindustria Acma (National Association of Cycle Motorcycle Accessories). The trend is similar for both scooters with 22.076 units (-20,1% compared to June 2010) and motorbikes with 9.688 units (-18,2%). The fifties, on the other hand, reach 11.057 registrations, marking a -18,7% compared to last year.
More generally, in the first half of 2011 there were 30.000 registrations and over 8.000 of 50cc. “On the one hand, there was no incentive, which also limited the damage last year, allowing for the promotion of at least 33 sales, on the other, the climate of uncertainty and the tax measures which depress the purchasing power of families and consequently the renewal of durable goods, such as means of transport, is postponed”, observed Corrado Capelli, president of Ancma. Between January and June of this year, 164.381 vehicles were registered, with a decrease of 15,7% compared to the first half of 2010. In the last six months, scooters totaled 107.816 units, with a decrease of 18,5%.
Motorcycles reach 56.565 sales, recording a -9,8%. The fifties registered were 38.368, with a decrease of 17,4%. Overall, during the first half of the current year, motorized two-wheelers achieved 202.767 sales, marking a -16,1% compared to the same period of 2010. The data released by Confindustria Ancma, on the other hand, show good news for Piaggio. In fact, in June, the Italian share of the Pontedera group grew to 31,4%. This positive response is above all due to the excellent results in the scooter sector where Piaggio achieved a 52,9% share in the 50cc scooter (+3%) and 32,9% in the over 50cc market (+2,7%). The group is also growing in motorcycles, reaching 7,1% thanks above all to brands such as Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Derbi. In the context of large-engined motorcycles, Piaggio finally obtained 7,8% (+6,2%).
