Shevardnadze, former president of Georgia and Gorbachev's right-hand man, has died

As head of Moscow's diplomacy under Mikhail Gorbachev (between 1985 and 1990 and then again at the end of 1991) he was among the protagonists of the perestroika season.

Eduard Shevardnadze, former president of Georgi, has diedpe and before that last Foreign Minister of the Soviet Union. In giving the news Marina Davitashvili, her personal assistant, only specified that Shevardnadze, 86, is died after a long illness. 

As head of Moscow's diplomacy under Mikhail Gorbachev (between 1985 and 1990 and then again at the end of 1991) he was among the protagonists of the perestroika season, which would end in 1991 with the dissolution of the USSR, and among architects of the strategy that leads to the end of the Cold War. In 1995 he became president of Georgia and remained so until November 2003, when he was deposed by the so-called Rose Revolution.
