Monti: more can be done in the fight against evasion

Una task force at the Treasury to take stock of the fight against tax evasion. This is the initiative of Prime Minister Mario Monti, who today gathered in Via XX Settembre the Deputy Minister of Economy, Vittorio Grilli, the Undersecretaries Vieri Ceriani and Gianfranco Polillo, and the heads of the ministry and of the Revenue, Customs and Territory Agency , the Guardia di Finanza and the autonomous administration of the State Monopolies.

“Rigor, equity and development are the fundamental guidelines on which our commitment is based to ensure that the fight against tax evasion is effective and non-intrusive – said Monti -. The recovery of tax evasion must become a tool for improving the efficiency of the economic system in a more equitable framework. In 2011, thanks to the work of the Revenue Agency and the Guardia di Finanza, 12 billion euros were recovered. But more can and must be done. We must continue with renewed strength, because if everyone declares their due, the taxman can be lighter for everyone. It is an inescapable commitment that we want to achieve also by improving tax transparency and the relationship between tax authorities and citizens”.
