Monti tonight at Colle for his resignation

“Today is the last day”. This is how Prime Minister Mario Monti expressed himself this morning, greeting the employees of Palazzo Chigi. The prime minister will already go up to Colle this evening to hand in his resignation to the head of state, Giorgio Napolitano. According to government sources, it is now only a matter of hours.

"A year ago this government was launched, but today, through no fault of the Mayan prophecy, we will have to finish our role", joked the Professor at the end of the Christmas mass, celebrated for employees in the Sala Verde of Palazzo Chigi. Sunday at 11 the outgoing Premier will announce in a press conference what his political future will be.

At the moment, however, there is a rather busy agenda to honor. At 18 there will be the final vote in the House on the stability law. For 19, however, a last council of ministers is convened, which will meet to approve the legislative decree on the ineligibility of convicts. At that point Monti will take the Via del Quirinale.
