Monti: "We are facing a new Tangentopoli, scoundrels before me"

Mario Monti, guest of Agorà, speaks of a new Tangentopoli: "In 1992 it was thought that the phenomenon of bribes was at an end, instead we are here again" - "Injured by scoundrels who say they left Italy in good condition in 2011”.

Monti: "We are facing a new Tangentopoli, scoundrels before me"

A new Tangentopoli. These are the very harsh words uttered by Mario Monti, a guest of Agorà this morning, after the hail of scandals and arrests in recent days: "Unfortunately, yes, we are faced with something very similar to Tangentopoli“. But the worst part, for the Professor, is the eternal return of this Italian disease, never duly treated: "In 1992 it was thought that the phenomenon of bribes was at an end, but here we are again", and it is the hope of the Italians.

The leader of Civic Choice starts the attack, speaking of the transition "from party politics to party politics" that took place in recent years, before the broadside explicitly aimed at Silvio Berlusconi, who had minimized the Finmeccanica case, speaking, so to speak, of corruption routine, practically obligatory: “That bribes exist in many countries is the reality but that it is inevitable I refuse it. A country must act on an international level, while I see a certain parochialism in the current debate: someone who has governed Italy like Berlusconi must realize that a country like Italy, which is in the G8, has a duty to fight corruption even internationally".

And then again: “I am much more wounded when scoundrels say they left Italy well in 2011 and then I sent it badly, I'm not proud if Obama says that Italy is doing well today”.

Berlusconi, meanwhile, throws the wool over his eyes, speaking of a maneuver by the judiciary to cover up “the great scandal of Monte dei Paschi di Siena which completely involves the Democratic Party. A 3 billion euro scandal”. Casini and Di Pietro, on the other hand, confirm Monti's thesis on an infinite Tangentopoli, while Pierluigi Bersani he holds the door open for the Professor: "If it's necessary, if it's appropriate, if it's practicable, I'll take care of it because the primaries have also decided who directs the traffic", before attacking the PDL leader too: "The right leaves an ethical and moral catastrophe”.

The electoral campaign, after a few days of silence, has officially resumed.
