Monti: "I wouldn't want to remain prime minister"

"No". This was the dry response of the Prime Minister, Mario Monti, on the sidelines of a conference organized by the Financial Times in Milan, when asked if he wants to remain at the head of the next government.

As for any assets, Monti specified that the Executive is studying the provision, "but will not introduce it overnight". The Premier explained that he is not against the capital, "but I think this will depend on the configuration and how it will be used or if it will be done once" or on an ongoing basis.

Monti recalled that many members of Parliament are in any case against the introduction of a property tax. “One, 1,5 members out of three in Parliament do not like this term or the tax and therefore we have difficulties”'. In addition - he underlined -, "we have no information available regarding the ownership of the assets". Monti also underlined that it is advisable not to use "a careless tax that encourages the removal of capital".
