Monti: we will never distance ourselves from Europe's demands

The leader of Civic Choice on the day of the meeting with the elected officials: "We will not be in the slightest willing to move away from European roots and from the path of structural reforms" - "No political offer, not even that of the 5 Star Movement appears capable of addressing the problems anchoring Italy to Europe and structural reforms”.

Monti: we will never distance ourselves from Europe's demands

“We will not be in the slightest willing to distance ourselves from European roots and from the path of structural reforms”. This was stated by the outgoing prime minister and leader of the Civic List, Mario Monti, in a press conference held during a meeting of the elected members of the party.

“No political offer, not even that of the 5 Star Movement – added the Professor -, appears even remotely capable of tackling the problems of anchoring Italy to Europe and of structural reforms. Ours is a harsh and radical critique of the political offer of the traditional parties. The need for Italy to anchor itself critically and constructively to the European Union is still alive today. The country must be healed and must make its voice heard in Europe. It is necessary to continue the structural reforms”.

And when will the elections return? Is it possible to hypothesize an explicit alliance between Matteo Renzi's Democratic Party and the Professor's Civic Choice? "Interesting questions, but I have no answer because they are premature," replied Monti.

As for relations with the M5S, "in the last few hours I haven't been to my office, Monti said again -, I don't know if the secretariat has had an answer from Mr. Grillo", invited by the Professor to Palazzo Chigi together with Silvio Berlusconi and Pier Luigi Bersani to discuss in view of the next European Council.
