Monti puts Berlusconi in "offside"

Harsh words of the outgoing Prime Minister towards the PDL and the Cavaliere - Criticisms of Vendola and the CGIL - Alfano replies: seek alliances on the left - He will not run as a candidate but will "rise" in politics, starting from the contents of the agenda - Still a crack open to give the use of the name to the centrists.

Monti puts Berlusconi in "offside"

Let's try to understand what elements of certainty Mario Monti's press conference gave yesterday to the Italians who will choose the new Parliament in two months' time. The first and certainly not secondary is that Berlusconi and the PDL will be out of possible alliances even with the centre. Monti was particularly harsh, he explained that he is unable to grasp any linearity in the recent thought of the Cavaliere; he explained that imagining removing the Imu means doubling it in a few months, and underlined the strong divergence with the positions that the Pdl has on the matter of fighting corruption and conflict of interests. Naturally these words have raised an equally rough reaction from the secretary Alfano, who accuses the outgoing prime minister of having chosen the path of an alliance on the left. All while Berlusconi was busy arguing on the Rai network 1 with the mild-mannered Gilletti, guilty of wanting to ask him some questions, then soliciting answers instead of monologues.

Equally explicit was Monti in excluding the possibility of his direct candidacy, prevented above all by being a senator for life. But this absolutely does not mean that the professor will not be present in the political arena in the coming months. He will therefore not take the field, but will "rise" in politics. As? Starting from the contents, from the things to do on which to verify the possible cohesion of a majority, which this time would in any case be "not strange" and certainly "political". Does he mean that he will run for prime minister? No, at the moment, but that if a group of forces agree on its contents (the Monti agenda or even another agenda which in any case is appreciated by the professor), he will have the hypothesis of being able to return to lead a government and also to lending his aid to that kind of majority will consider him very carefully.

And will the center's lists be able to use your name? At the moment there is still no green light from the professor. Which, however, has left some cracks open above all by responding to the solicitations of the Annunziata. Here too we start from the contents of the agenda, but the impression is that Monti will also evaluate him on the basis of the numerical consistency of those who will ask him to use his name. Because to aim for leadership you also need numbers. And so far the polls, referring to the center lists, are not particularly generous or encouraging. The fact remains that Casini evaluated Monti's press conference very favorably yesterday evening. And to Bianca Berlinguer's question about when she would ask the outgoing president for the availability of the name, she replied: "I may also have already asked him".

Monti used words of great respect towards Bersani, defined as "legitimate candidate of a strong coalition". However, the professor expressed clear criticism of Vendola ("conservative") and above all of the CGIL, guilty of not having favored labor reform. Bersani, in turn, explained that he will carefully evaluate the Monti agenda, but added that now the word is up to the citizens and that, if it is true that the work done by Monti should not be compromised, this should also be integrated by doing things which have not yet been done and which must aim to create more equity and more work.

Conclusion: the match for the new majority will be played entirely between the center and the centre-left. Who, everything suggests, will still have to find forms of collaboration. Difficult, at this point that the PDL and Berlusconi can get back into the game, after the harsh words of Monti and the polls that give them very far from that 40% that Berlusconi continues to invoke with a certain impudence. As for the premiership, this will depend above all on the citizens' vote. On the basis of which he will take the decisions entrusted to him by the Constitution by the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano. And here we can conclude that we are really in good hands.

Meanwhile in the Democratic Party there are those who, like the labor lawyer Piero Ichino, are tempted by a possible Monti list. For which he would be willing to run, after announcing that he would not participate in the primary competition, deeming his beliefs incompatible with those of the head of the economy Stefano Fassina.
