Monti meets the leaders of the center: we are moving towards a single list, at least in the Senate

Today the outgoing prime minister Mario Monti puts another piece in his political reconversion after his experience at Palazzo Chigi as a technician: he meets the leaders of the center - from Pier Ferdinando Casini to Luca Cordero di Montezemolo - to verify the possibility of a common electoral presence on the basis of the so-called Monti Agenda. According to rumors, the outgoing premier would push for the solution of a single list at least in the Senate reserving the power of veto on the candidates.

The meeting follows some acts that formalized his choice of a direct commitment in the electoral campaign. First the contents of the press conference held on Sunday 23 December, then the messages via Twitter sent on Christmas evening after 23,30 pm with an unprecedented communication strategy: ”Together we saved Italy from disaster. Now the policy needs to be renewed. Complaining is useless, spending is yes”, “Let's get into politics!”.

"In any case, it will be decided by the end of the year"Roberto Rao, from the UDC, told Skytg24. On the other hand, in the Chamber, if an agreement is not found, there could be several lists connected to each other in a coalition which would refer to a "federation of the center" which would be born in the next few days. Meanwhile, Monti's choice creates tensions both in the PDL (where Beppe Pisanu and Franco Frattini lead the Filomontians willing to leave the party), both in the Pd (five MPs have already left the party: Pietro Ichino, Benedetto Adragna, Lucio D'Ubaldo, Giampaolo Fogliardi and Flavio Pertoldi). To best summarize the situation, Pierferdinando Casini himself took care of it on his Facebook page: "The hysterical reactions of the PDL and Berlusconi towards president Monti and the UDC show that we have hit the mark. Ours is the only credible proposal in the field that is aimed at the popular, the moderates and the serious reformers. Everything else takes us back to the carnival of a few years ago. No thanks, we've already given!"
