Monti, here is the Agenda: "Change Italy, reform Europe"

A document will soon be published in which the Professor explains his political project for Italy in a programmatic way - "The agenda is not addressed to the centre, neither to the right nor to the left: it is, modestly, an erga omnes agenda" – “Don't destroy what has been done by shirking Europe's guidelines or by promising to cancel the Imu”.

Monti, here is the Agenda: "Change Italy, reform Europe"

“Changing Italy, reforming Europe”. This is the official title of the much-vaunted Monti agenda. The outgoing Premier and his collaborators have brought together in a document the principles that inspired the action of the last government and the text will be made public shortly. The announcement came during the end-of-year press conference held this morning by the Professor. In the elections at the end of February, his name will not appear on any list, but today Monti said he was ready to accept a new position at Palazzo Chigi in the event that the proposal comes from interlocutors who share the lines outlined in his Agenda.

“There has been much talk of the Monti agenda – said the Premier -. We are happy that the political debate has moved from sides to content. We have therefore decided to concentrate on this point in a systematic way, producing a document entitled 'Changing Italy, reforming Europe. Agenda for a common commitment'. It is a first contribution to an open reflection”.

According to Monti, first of all there are some barriers to be respected: "We must not destroy what has been done with everyone's sacrifice over the last year, as the Head of State said". In particular, this means avoiding the temptation to "shirk Europe's guidelines" and, in relations with citizens, "not promising to abolish the Imu or other taxes, also because otherwise the government which would find itself in office after a year – and I stress one year, not five – should impose a double IMU”. In short, “the agenda aims to avoid very dangerous steps backwards – explained the Professor again -. It is not addressed to the centre, neither to the right nor to the left: it is, modestly, an erga omnes agenda”.
