Monti in Paris to meet Sarkozy

Prime Minister Mario Monti is in Paris today for a series of appointments, which will culminate in the afternoon with the bilateral meeting with the President of the French Republic Nicolas Sarkozy.

First, however, Monti went to the Italian Embassy in rue de Varennes and subsequently to theHotel Matignon, seat of the transalpine prime minister François Fillon.

After breakfast with Fillon Monti will go to the 'New world' conference organized by the transalpine Minister of Industry Eric Besson where he will give the final speech, before arriving precisely at the bilateral meeting with Sarkozy.

On the agenda is the preparation of the next European appointments, including the summit with German Chancellor Angel Merkel scheduled for next Wednesday and the EU Council on 30 January (preceded by the Eurogroup on the 23rd, where Monti will attend as interim Economy Minister): that date will be a bank of decisive test for the future of Europe, gripped these days by the Hungarian crisis and by the persistent alarm on Greece, and Italy, called upon to present the new package of reforms for growth.
