Montepaschi at a loss and the stock collapses on the stock market

The board of directors approved the 2011 financial statements of the Sienese group which recorded a net loss of 4,69 billion euros due to write-downs of goodwill and other intangibles – Turnover also decreased (-1,2%) – Improved capital results with a Tier 1, increased by a quarter in one year – The share on the Stock Exchange loses more than 2%.

Monte dei Paschi di Siena closed the 2011 financial statements in the red. The net loss was €4,69 billion, of which 4,25 million due to goodwill write-downs and 222 million for intangible by Ppa (Purchase price allocation) e 35 million in write-downs of the investment in AM Holding. The figure is decidedly negative if compared with the profit of 985,5 million in 2010. The operating profit, before taxes, is around 150 million: this too is down compared to the 1,48 billion in 2010. Revenues decreased by 1,2% to 5,5 billion. The reduction in the interest margin (-2,4% compared to 2010) and net commissions (-6%) weighed on turnover. 

Core Tier 1, net of Tremonti Bonds, stood at 8,5%. Tier 1 instead increased to 11,1%, an improvement compared to 8,4% in 2010. As can be read in a note, the capital increase completed on 8 July 2011, the increase in the share premium reserve, the effects attributable to the valuation operation of the instrumental real estate assets of the Group and the elimination of the prudential filter associated with the redemption of goodwill.

Direct deposits decreased by 7,2% to 146 billion. It decreased by the same percentage also there indirect collection which amounts to 135 billion. In detail managed savings stands at 46 billion (-8,2% compared to 2010) and assets under administration amounted to approximately 88 billion (-6,6%). Loans to customers are also down, -5,6% to 147 billion. Net value adjustments for impairment of loans amounted to approximately 1.311 million (+13,4% compared to 2010).
