Due to its famous frescoes, Montefalco is considered a sanctuary of Umbrian-Tuscan art. The central apse frescoed by Benozzo Gozzoli in 1452 which narrated the story of the life of San Francesco is kept inside the Museum of the Ex Church of San Francesco. There is also a Nativity by Perugino and frescoes by the Umbrian school from the 40s. Also of great interest is the Art Gallery where many works by Francesco Melanzio, Antoniazzo Romano, Niccolò Alunno, Melozzo da Forlì are kept, paintings of the Umbrian school from the 300s to the 700s, and a collection of Minor Arts.

A town rich in history appreciated for its position since Roman times, Montefalco over the centuries has hosted two Swabian emperors, Federico Barbarossa and Federico II, and welcomed the popes Nicolò V and Julius III.
