Monsanto: another no to the wedding with Bayer

The American agrochemical group once again rejects the offer of the German pharmaceutical giant: the board of directors judged the 64 billion dollar proposal "inadequate".

Monsanto says no again to the wedding with Bayer, also rejecting the second offer of the German giant, which had come to put 64 billion dollars on the plate. As happened at the end of May, when he had returned to the sender a lower offer of 2 billion, the American agrochemical group is "open to constructive conversations" with its German rival "and other parties to understand whether a transaction that the board believes is in the best interests of Monsanto shareholders can be carried out".

Monsanto released a statement which reads that its “board of directors unanimously considers the proposal is inadequate” at a financial level and “insufficient in guaranteeing certainty of the operation”. The group adds that "there is no guarantee that a transaction can be initiated or completed, or under what terms".

On July 14 last Bayer had raised its offer all-cash purchase agreement at $125 per share from $122 per share. Yesterday Monsanto closed up 2,89% at $106,44; in the pre-market it dropped by 1,5%.
