World Cup and safety, here comes the manual

The Prefeitura do Rio (the Municipality of Rio) has promoted a manual of procedures aimed at regulating various problems related to the next World Cup to be held this summer in Brazil. Central to the report are transportation, cleanliness and safety. The stakes are high: according to Embratur (the Brazilian tourism organization), Rio will welcome 600 tourists to the games and 56% of the tickets sold were purchased by foreigners.

The manual explains that the consumption of alcohol will be prohibited in the Maracanã and anywhere within a thousand meters of the stadium. The rule will be valid until five hours before the start of the match and two hours after the event has ended. Regarding transportation, the subway and the BRT railway line will be the main means of transportation used. Visitors going directly from Tom Jobim International Airport to the stadium should use the BRT station in Vicente de Carvalho, Rio's west side. The BRT Transcarioca will be ready for the World Cup, but there is no guarantee that it will be functional right from the start. Roads around the stadium will be partially closed starting six hours before the match and completely closed four hours before.
