I Alpine Ski World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo they will. Despite the pandemic, from the 7 21 February 3.500 people will converge in the Venetian town, including 600 athletes from 70 countries. The event, the largest in Italy since the arrival of Covid, will be behind closed doors and will take place following a protocol approved by the Scientific Technical Committee.

The basic principle is that ofbubbles”, isolated environments to limit contacts with the outside as much as possible. In all, there will be four: the red bubble for sports teams, technicians employed in competitions and health personnel; the yellow bubble for the media; the blue bubble for people involved in organizing and running the event (including law enforcement and suppliers) and the green bubble for guests and authorities.

The protocol also provides a high number of Covid tests, to be carried out before and during the event. In particular, all accredited persons will be subjected to rapid swabs every three days. The positives will be subjected to molecular tests, which in case of confirmation of the result will lead to mandatory quarantine.

The lifts can only be used at the same time by people belonging to the same bubble. Finally, measures are foreseen to prevent participants and tourists from crossing paths in hotels or other structures (hotels, for example, will be assigned to a single team or group of teams).

Despite the go-ahead for the World Ski Championships, the Cts technicians have spoken out against the reopening of the ski resorts after January 18, in line with the government's position. The Committee also responded to a question from the Ministry of Sport on the possibility of restarting basic sporting activities, including gyms for the elderly. The experts, while recognizing the health damage that is caused to citizens by keeping these activities closed, nevertheless judge the reopening to be incompatible with the current epidemiological situation.
