2026 World Cup: France and Morocco advance to the quarterfinals. Brazil vs. Norway and Mexico vs. England follow.

The French won narrowly with a penalty from the usual Mbappé, while Morocco swept Canada 3-0. Ancelotti's Brazil are eagerly awaited.

2026 World Cup: France and Morocco advance to the quarterfinals. Brazil vs. Norway and Mexico vs. England follow.

France beat Paraguay 1-0 in the round of 7 of the World Cup played in Philadelphia and advanced to the quarterfinals, where they will face Morocco in a repeat of the Qatar 2022 semifinal. After a long resistance from the "Albirroja," the match was decided by a penalty from Mbappé in the 25th minute of the second half. The French captain has seven goals in this World Cup, the tournament's joint-top scorer along with Argentina's No. 10, Lionel Messi.

In the quarterfinals the Blues will meet Morocco, who ran riot in the other round of 16 match played yesterday against Canada, the host country, thanks to Ounahi's brace and Rahimi's final goal.

Brazil-Norway

Mexico-England

For England, the return to Mexico for the round of 16 brings back the ghosts of previous editions, marked by the defeat in the quarter-finals againstArgentina of the “mano de Dios” and the “goal of the siglo” in 1986, and by West Germany's quarter-final comeback in 1970, which eliminated England, who were without goalkeeper Banks, who was most likely the victim of food poisoning.

The two teams last met on May 24, 2010. England won 3-1 in a home friendly. Then, on May 25, 2001, England won 4-0, also in a friendly. In both recorded matches, England was the home team.
